Q. My dog, who is 9 years old, was diagnosed with lymphoma and I have completed Reiki I – can I give him Reiki?
Working with Reiki is not necessarily about sensations. Sensations are a side-effect of the practice, not the practice itself. Whether you sense something or not is unimportant – what is important is that you work with the energy and allow it to do what it needs, not what you think it should do. If you come into the system of Reiki with expectations you will surely be disappointed as Reiki is not about what we expect or want it to do.
You may at some point have heard a story that related spirit guides with the system of Reiki.
Many indigenous cultures have worked with spirit guides, not necessarily using this exact terminology. A spirit guide is the spiritual energy of a being that does not have a physical form.
Surely it is about time that new, yes NEW, Reiki books stop calling Usui Mikao, Dr Usui! Call him Mikao Usui, Usui Mikao, Usui Sensei but can we stop calling him Doctor? Please?
It makes the system of Reiki look like some shonky practice with a snake-oil seller as the founder. Using the title ‘Doctor’ for Usui Mikao in society today is misleading for clients and students, giving Reiki a medical air that it does not have.
Mothers and babies experience different sensations with Reiki. Sometimes it feels to the mother that the baby goes into a state of wonderful relaxation and lies low and heavy in the womb, at other times the baby becomes energetic and kicks around drawing on the energy as if it is having a bit of fun time!
