If we hold space for someone during a hands-on/off healing session, then we need to let go of any outcome. As soon as we have an idea that the pain needs to be gone or that an emotional issue needs to be resolved, then we are holding on to a certain outcome. And therefore, as we are holding on to this certain outcome, we are not holding space. Holding space means letting go of trying to fix our client. As soon as we try to fix our client, our ego is in the way and therefore we are not holding space.
Let’s see if we can get a clearer picture of the difference between the precepts and hands-on/off healing.
Imagine; what if everybody in the world would practice the precepts and take them to heart and no one did hands-on/off healing?
As practitioners or teachers we often say; “I am doing hands-on healing on someone”, or “I am working on someone”.
Hands-on healing on ourselves and others is in essence a form of moving meditation. But for hands-on healing to become meditation a few factors need to be at play.
What we feel during a hands on healing session or a meditation is called hibiki in Japanese. Literally, hibiki means an echo. The reason why these sensations are called hibiki/echo is because they are not real—an echo is empty, like a reflection or an illusion.
What is the real reason that Mikao Usui taught hands on healing on ourselves? Before we delve into this question lets first of all establish that from a traditional perspective the word Reiki symbolizes True Self. By using the word Reiki, Mikao Usui was pointing out that the system he created was there to help us to re-discover our true selves. This is apparent by his use of the precepts, as the precepts deal with the intricacies of the True Self.
A common complaint that many Reiki practitioners have is that they appear to have side effects from performing hands-on healing treatments. This includes feeling exhausted afterwards, or nauseated throughout the treatment. You’ll find these complaints often voiced on Reiki Forums or at gatherings. Why is this?
The system of Reiki is an art, like painting.
To create a masterpiece might take many years. First, we need to learn about the canvas - the foundation, the paints - the structure of the painting etc.
It is a step by step progress, the same within the system of Reiki.
