spiritualblessings

Within Mikao Usui’s teachings we come across this sentence: “The esoteric teachings to invite blessings”, which is seen in the prelude of the precepts. A translation of the full text included with the precepts follows:

The esoteric teachings to invite blessings
The spiritual medicine of having strayed from universal truth
Today only
Do not anger
Do not worry
Be grateful
Be true to your way and your true self
Show compassion to yourself and others
Perform gassho in the morning and evening
Embody this in your heart-mind
Chant with your mouth
Improve your heart-mind and body
Usu’s teachings to remember one’s True Self
The founder Mikao Usui

Many practitioners and teachers believe that the blessings Mikao Usui is talking about within this statement refer to the reiju/attunement/initiation. But this is not the case. If we look deeply into the whole statement, we do not come across the concept of reiju/attunement/initiation at all; rather, we come across a specific state of mind. A state of mind of no anger, no worry, of being grateful, of being true to our way and our true self, and of being compassionate to ourselves and others.

The real blessing which Mikao Usui is talking about is embodying this state of mind in our heart-mind all day long; that is the blessing.

Think about it.

Wouldn’t it be a blessing if we do not have to get angry anymore and if we do not have to deal with angry people?

Wouldn’t it be a blessing if we don’t have to worry and fear anymore and if we don’t have to deal with worried and fearful people?

Wouldn’t it be a blessing if we can be grateful for everything which comes our way no matter what?

Wouldn’t it be a blessing if we can live a life of being true to our way and our true self and not to another person’s way?

Wouldn’t it be a blessing if we can be compassionate all the time to ourselves and others and that other people are compassionate to us and themselves?

These kind of blessings are also self induced, which means we feel strong and empowered from within. They come from our own personal practice when we meditate on the precepts, meditate during hands-on healing, meditate on the symbols and mantras, practice the meditation practices like joshin kokyu ho, and be meditative when we practice reiju/attunement/initiation.

If we think that the blessing Mikao Usui is talking about is the reiju/attunement/initiation itself, then we always have to rely on an external source, the teacher who performs the reiju/attunement/initiation. This creates a state of dependency and is not empowering at all. Because we can not be with the teacher 24/7, the teacher is there to help us to empower ourselves so that we can feel these internal blessings – a state of mind of no anger, no worry, gratitude, being true to our way and our true self, and being compassionate – all day and night long.

Therefore delve deep into the heart of the system of Reiki and feel the blessings of embodying the precepts in your daily life, feel these blessings raining down on you all the time.
