28 Reiki Practitioners Walk Into a Bar…

Yup, that happened. In May, 2017 in Boston/Newton, Massachusetts, 28 Reiki practitioners actually did walk into a bar for a 3 day Shinpiden (sometimes called Reiki Master) class with Frans Stiene.

The Ritual of Reiju

There are many forms of reiju/initiation/attunement some with touch and some without.
With his depth of practice, Mikao Usui could just sit opposite his student and let the reiju - spiritual offering unfold by itself without any physical ritual. However, this is not so easy. During this kind of reiju he wasn’t visualizing anything or working with symbols and mantras. He was just reiju; he was himself a spiritual offering. Thoughts About a Reiki Meditation Retreat

When someone asks me what happens at Frans’ Reiki meditation retreat, they usually want to know what we did. I tell them that we practiced sitting, standing and moving meditations in a big group, in pairs, and in small groups. I tell them about visualizations, chanting, reijus, hands on/off healing and the camaraderie of hanging out with Frans and other participants during breaks and evenings. I may also tell them about high jinks like “extreme reiki” or the saga of the “weeble-napping” caper.

Treatments with Frans Stiene

I have had distance Reiki from Frans in the past and that was fantastic. I recently had my first live full Reiki session with Frans and let me tell you…it’s better than Raspberry chocolate chip ice cream with hot fudge sauce and slivered almonds on top!! And no calories or guilt. It’s like being on your favorite roller coaster ride and being able to ride as often as you want without having to stand in line. It’s like being out in a raft on the ocean with a cool breeze and calm waves, floating you into unimaginable peace and calm…..aaaaaah. You get the picture. You just want more.

Playfulness

When people think of spiritual practice, “playfulness” is not usually the first word that comes to mind. We might think that dancing on a beach or rolling around in the grass is playful, but that a spiritual practice must be the opposite: serious. I often see many people who follow a spiritual practice become very serious. If you think or practice something slightly different than what they practice, they even can become offended or angry. In a way, instead of finding spaciousness and freedom in their practice, they have put themselves in yet another box, the spiritual box.

Stillness

The more I sit quiet, the more I realize
stillness isn’t static.
It is the horizon of the
rising sun and setting moon,
all that lies unborn in-between.
