Anger vs Angry

Of the teachings in Usui san’s precepts, one has been more challenging for me, and that is the precept on anger.
Looking back at my growing years, I can see the streak of temper that has surfaced now and then since childhood.  What would cause an explosion of that temper, for me, would be some experience where I was judging someone or some situation as being unfair, irrational, or stupid.  I guess one can say that it has been a part of “my personality”.

The Shell of a Ghost

Someone recently referred to my role as carer of my mother as “service”. I hadn’t actually thought about it in those terms, my thoughts over the last five years were more often centered around words like difficult, patience, grief and dementia. But, he was right, service it was. And in this role I am not alone.

Making the Connection between Human and Animal Healing

I remember as a new mother being told by my modern chiropractor (she wasn’t the bone cracking type) that for the first few years of my daughter’s life her health would be directly related to my own.

Do We Have Free Will?

One of the vexing questions I’ve faced on the journey is this one: “Do we have free will?”
In practical living, we all set goals, create intentions, formulate plans, and do a lot of things all the time to try to achieve those goals, intentions, and desires. What we also experience is that some of these materialize, some of these materialize but are late in coming compared to when we want them or show up in a different shape than what we desired, some flat out don’t show up in our experience. Depending on our beliefs, we may navigate all this in our own unique ways, but not without some confusion, some consternation, and also some level of recognizing that we truly don’t know what governs these outcomes.

Let the Waggy Tale Point the Way

When I was a little girl and things weren’t going to plan, I’d sit in the garage, where no-one could see me, put my head in my hands and bawl. When I say “no-one”, that’s not quite correct. Because there was always someone who saw me, my dog Humphrey. Humphrey D. Dog, to be exact.

The Reiki Precepts and Old Man’s Favourite Adages

Around 1853 in the Edo period of Japan The Old Man’s Favourite Adages, Oyaji No Kogoto, appeared. No one knows who wrote it, but what is interesting is that it includes similar ideas to the Reiki Precepts. See if you can find them…

The Dawn of the Witness

In my movement through life these days, I notice something odd, something different, something profound. I am being breathed. Something is acting through this mind-body construct. It hasn’t always been this way, and it isn’t always this way now. I get attached to this mind-body character far too often, and forget myself as an actor doing what is asked of me in the Divine Play, Leela in Sanskrit, by the director who is God. He is also the play, the theater, the actors, the acting, and everything within and without.
